Psychological skills training courses

Skills Development Service provides CPD workshops for health care and other professionals. All workshops are facilitated by experienced Senior Clinical Psychologists.

Introduction to CBT (2 days)

This workshop introduces attendees to the ‘Five Systems Model, in particular understanding how thoughts,

feelings, behaviours, physiology and the environment interact to create and maintain psychological

distress. Using the five systems model, the second day of the workshop looks at how cognitive behavioural

approaches can be used to manage various forms of psychological distress, associated with mood and

anxiety disorders.

Introduction to SFT (1 day)
 

Solution focused therapy (SFT) focuses on finding solutions rather than problems. This one day workshop

covers core principles, strategies and techniques of SFT. The workshop will help practitioners to use this

approach to help young people and adults move forward in relation to their problems.

Introduction to Mindfulness (1 day)


This workshop introduces people to mindfulness and its key principles. The workshop covers core practices

and experiential techniques and includes meditative and breathing practices. Attendees will not only learn

about mindfulness technique, but also be able to use some of the practices and techniques to enhance

their own personal well-being.

Motivational Interviewing (1 day)

This workshop will help attendees to use motivational interviewing skills to utilise the personal resources available in clients for change, help resolve ambivalence and mobilise their energy and increase commitment towards personal goals. The workshop will cover models of change, narrative techniques ofmotivational interviewing and the processes involved in using the techniques to increase motivation and promote change.

Recognizing PD and how to respond (1 day)

This workshop helps people understand what we mean by personality disorder and how to recognize

people with personality disorder at assessment/initial contacts. The workshop also helps people to think

about how to respond to people presenting with these types of difficulties.

One day workshops contribute to 6 hours of CPD; 2 day workshops to 12 hours CPD.
