Coventry and Warwickshire Partnership NHS Trust (CWPT) provides Mental Health, Learning Disability and Community services to people of all ages living in Coventry, Warwickshire and Solihull. We also provide some specialist Learning Disability in patient services to a wider geographical area.

We have strong links with Warwick University and its Medical School and growing research partnerships with Warwick and Coventry Universities. We are a teaching Trust with Medical students from both Warwick University and Buckingham Medical School; and postgraduate trainees in all our specialities.

Acute Mental Health

Acute Healthcare Pathway This integrated practice unit (IPU) based across three sites -  Caludon Centre in Coventry; Avenue Clinic in Nuneaton; and St Michaels Hospital in Warwick - provides a range of acute mental health services to patients requiring enhanced care and treatment.

Community Mental Health

Community Mental Health Services in Coventry and Warwickshire are delivered by specialist multidisciplinary teams based on the integrated practice unit (IPU) model.

Teams are based at community hubs in Nuneaton; Rugby; Coventry; Leamington Spa; Warwick; and Stratford-upon-Avon.

Community services work closely with our acute services, along with other agencies including local authorities and the third sector. Community teams have strong links with the University of Warwick and University of Buckingham, and we host a number of academic posts.

Our Trust believes that high quality consultant appointments are the key to providing the clinical leadership of teams to deliver high quality services, ensuring our community teams have dedicated medical input.

Community Mental Health and Wellbeing Teams meet the needs of people living with a non-psychotic disorder, such as anxiety and/or depression. CWPT also has specialist services for personality disorders and eating disorders, who work closely with the community teams.

Early Intervention and Recovery Teams provide care to people in the community who have been diagnosed with psychosis; including schizophrenia and bipolar disorder. These services work to the recovery model. Our Recovery Teams have pioneered the use of the Flexible Assertive Community Treatment (FACT) model.

Perinatal Mental Health Teams are well established in CWPT and are undergoing a period of increased investment and expansion. These teams have strong links with our acute hospitals and community maternity and child health services.

Memory and Dementia Services

Memory and Dementia Services provide multidisciplinary (MDT) specialist assessment management and post diagnosis support for memory disorders and dementia in Coventry, North Warwickshire and South Warwickshire.

The service has support from Crisis teams in each locality who provide support for those suffering from dementia where crisis response is required. In Coventry, the service is accredited by Memory Services Accreditation Programme (MSNAP), and the plan is to obtain MSNAP accreditation for the services in other localities as well.

Child and Adolescent Mental Health (CAMHS)

Mental Health services for children and young people in Coventry and Warwickshire are part of RISE, providing an integrated mental health and wellbeing service across tiers 1, 2 and 3.

Specialist Tier 3 CAMHS teams deliver multidisciplinary care, including psychiatry. The teams are based in Nuneaton; Coventry; Leamington Spa; and Stratford-upon-Avon.

RISE aims to have an increased emphasis on prevention and early intervention, and to integrate more effectively with other local services and schools. We have a large team of staff working with both our Trust and Coventry and Warwickshire Mind.

This service includes a website co-produced with young people and the innovative dimensions tool to assist patients, families, carers and refers in finding the right support.

Amongst other services, RISE includes;

  • Specialist Mental Health Services (CAMHS)
  • Eating Disorders
  • Neurodevelopment Services
  • Primary Care Mental Health, including support to schools

CWPT are currently working closely with our commissioners to develop a Tier 3.5 service as an alternative to admission, and to also extend our Acute Liaison Team to provide better cover and support to our acute hospitals.

Delivering mental health services to children, young people, and adults collectively is allowing the development of an improved experience, transitioning between services at the most appropriate age for the individual.

Learning Disabilities

Community Learning Disability Services

Coventry and Warwickshire Partnership Trust (CWPT) provides a comprehensive range of lifespan Community Learning Disability Services for a population of around 850,000 in the Coventry and Warwickshire area; and also to Solihull (pop 215,000).

These services include:

  • Community Child LD services
  • Neurodevelopmental Autistic Spectrum Disorder (ASD) services.
  • Adult LD Intensive/Enhanced Support team
  • Children’s LD Intensive Support Team

Inpatient Learning Disability Services

For the wider West Midlands we provide tertiary services in the following areas:

  • Forensic services (includes medium and low security,as well as women’s services)
  • Child Learning Disability inpatient services.
  • Specialist Assessmentand Treatment services (some patients are accepted from a national catchment area)

The Trust supports consultants taking on national and regional strategic roles in the field of intellectual disability.

Community Paediatrics

Community Paediatricians work in partnership with other children’s community health services, being co-located with Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services; Learning Disabilities; Occupational Therapy; Physiotherapy; Speech and Language Therapy; Community Children’s Nurses; the Looked after Children Health Team; Audiology; and Dietetics.

Our services provide assessment and interventions for vulnerable children and families, including assessments for child sexual abuse (forensic and historic) through our contribution to the regional Paediatric Sexual Assault Service (PSAS). Our services also help children with neurodevelopmental disorders and  children with long term conditions including epilepsy.

Our spasticity MDT clinic with paediatric physiotherapy and paediatric orthopaedics offers collaborative expertise for the assessment of spasticity and cerebral palsy.

The community paediatric department works closely with paediatric colleagues at University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire NHS Trust. We teach medical students from Warwick Medical School and provide training for all grades of paediatric specialist trainees.

Community Palliative Care

The Community Palliative Care team supports patients over the age of 18 who have advanced progressive illness and are registered with a Coventry GP.

The majority of patients are seen in their own home, or care home, with some outpatient provision.

The multi-disciplinary team consists of: Head of Service, Consultant in Palliative Medicine, Specialty Trainee in Palliative Medicine, Palliative Care Clinical Nurse Specialists, Clinical Psychologist, Occupational Therapist, Physiotherapist, Technical Instructor and Palliative Support Sisters/Healthcare Assistants. 

The team work closely with other Trust staff, particularly the Community Nursing Team.

There are also strong working relationships with Myton Hospice, GPs, hospital teams and other disease specific nurse specialists e.g. COPD, Heart Failure, Parkinson’s, and Dementia.

The team lead the Motor Neurone Disease MDT in Coventry.

Dental Services

Our Trust operates a Coventry Community Dental Service (CCDS) Team out of City of Coventry Health Centre, which has nine purpose-built dental surgeries.  The service currently operates Monday to Friday.

The Coventry Community Dental Service consists of a team of dentists; orthodontists, dental therapists; and dental nurses to provide patient-focused community dentistry for people with more complex needs and conditions.

The service also comprises an Oral Health Promotion team; a domiciliary service; a sedation service; and provides regular general anaesthetic sessions for University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire NHS Trust.

CCDS prides themselves on their commitment to supporting individuals continued development. As a member of staff, you will receive annual appraisals; regular one-to-one support; and have access to a range of relevant training provided by the Trust.

The City of Coventry Health Centre is located within easy access to all transport links. There is a Pay & Display car park adjacent to the building, and some street parking nearby.  

If you chose to run or cycle to work, a secure bike lock up is available free of charge and showering facilities are conveniently located on the same floor as the department.
