Do you have a passion for early intervention and prevention work within children and young people’s mental health? Do you want to make a difference and be a part of an innovative, forward-thinking service?

The Rise Early Help service at Coventry and Warwickshire Partnership NHS Trust (CWPT) is holding online ‘Get to Know Us’ sessions throughout the day on Friday 30th September. You’re invited to attend, ask questions, and learn about the exciting opportunities available within the teams.

Recent investment and expansion in the Rise Early Help offer, which consists of the Primary Mental Health Team (PMHT) and the Mental Health Support Team (MHST), has led to several exciting opportunities across band 5, band 6 and band 7 posts in Coventry and Warwickshire. The team are looking for Nurses, Social Workers, Occupational Therapists, Children’s Wellbeing Practitioners and Educational Mental Health Practitioners to join the teams in a variety of roles.

During the hour-long sessions, you will meet members of the team who will highlight the important work of the service and how the team equips children and young people with the tools and support to better manage and understand their mental health, leading to a happier, healthier future. You’ll hear about the interventions and approaches the team uses to achieve this, including low and Hi intensity CBT, consultations, whole-school approach, classroom sessions, training for professionals, parents and carers, and more.

Why Early Intervention and Prevention?

Joe's Story - This is a job that I am feeling happier and more hopeful in every day

“My last role involved working alongside lots of people with Autism Spectrum Disorder whilst they were in the most mentally unwell and vulnerable time of their lives, which involved supporting young people and adults in mental health crisis. I have seen the high levels of distress and pressure on service users and families caused by times of mental health crisis. This led me to feel quite hopeless and frustrated, as the interventions we were able to provide at the time were often not enough to manage or support the individual, and as a result of this, and a few other issues, I burnt out.

Whilst on sick leave, I read in the Green Paper behind the Mental Health Support Team (MHST) trailblazer that over half of all mental health conditions are developed before the age of 14. This shocked me, especially having worked with mostly adults since qualifying as a nurse, and I began to wonder how many of the people I have supported would have avoided crisis if they received support earlier.

Now I am in a role in the MHST that provides early intervention to children, young people, their parents and their schools, too. It came with a more than welcome change of pace, a very passionate and cheerful team, and a fulfilling role in preventing young people (and further down the line, adults) from experiencing such a highly distressing and difficult time.

This is a job that I am feeling happier and more hopeful in every day.”

The team are recruiting to several vacancies. If you have experience working in mental health and are dedicated to providing compassionate, high-quality care to children and young people, then we want to meet you! Come along to speak to the teams, learn more about working in early intervention and prevention, and ask your questions.
