Some may also feel anxious, irritable and may worry constantly or go over things in their heads. Others may lose their temper more easily, drink more or act unreasonably. Headaches, muscle tension or pain, or dizziness can be other signs.

We help adults (16-plus) across the Coventry, Warwickshire and Solihull area a with symptoms and conditions including:

  • Sleeplessness
  • Anxiety (for example, social anxiety, health anxiety, excessive worrying)
  • Stress
  • Depression
  • Anger
  • PTSD (post-traumatic stress disorder)
  • OCD (obsessive compulsive disorder)
  • Panic attacks

Who can access psychological therapy services?

This confidential, free NHS service is for anyone aged 16 years and older. There is no upper age limit.

What does IAPT stand for?

IAPT stands for Improving Access to Psychological Therapy and is an NHS service designed to offer short-term psychological therapies to people suffering from anxiety, depression and stress. IAPT may also work with people who suffer from panic disorder, simple phobia, OCD or PTSD.

What is CBT?

CBT (cognitive behavioural therapy) is a psychological treatment for both anxiety and depression and there is evidence that it is effective. It is a practical and approach that provides coping strategies. CBT helps people to see how their thoughts affect how they feel and how they behave.

How can I refer myself?

You can refer yourself to IAPT by calling:

024 7667 1090

Lines are open from 9am to 4.30pm Monday to Friday.

You will speak to an IAPT administrator at our telephone and referral centre (TaRC) who will register your details on our system and begin the process of arranging an assessment appointment.

How long does it take to get an appointment?

After you have made the initial call to our referral line, we aim to offer everyone an initial assessment (often in the form of a telephone assessment) as soon as possible and this usually happens within one to two weeks.

Any contact with the service following this will be influenced by the outcome of the assessment call. Some people benefit from ongoing telephone work, others are helped by our courses and groups as well as individual therapy.

How much do the workshops and group sessions cost?

The workshops and group sessions are free. IAPT is a national programme funded by the NHS and provided in this area by Coventry and Warwickshire Partnership Trust.

Where will I be seen?

The location of your sessions with IAPT will vary across Coventry, Warwickshire and Solihull. Some sessions are offered in GP surgeries others in health centres or in offices at other suitable public buildings.

Many people opt for telephone work so that the sessions have less impact on family and work commitments. Our courses and groups can take place in other health buildings, libraries and community centres.

Can I choose the gender of my therapist?

Yes. We will also attempt to accommodate race, cultural and language specific requests where we are able. This may depend on the people we have working for us at the time – staff move on or change roles and this could affect the level of provision available.
